ANNOUNCEMENTS
Happy Summer to All Stallions' Players and Parents,
The BOD and coaches hope this finds you well and enjoying your summer. This message will be the first of several you will get this summer to keep you updated on the our activities to get the club ready for a better and more exciting 2010 season.
1. July 4th Parades - We have been accepted to march in both the Arlington Heights and Mt. Prospect parades this year. They will occur one after the other this Saturday. The AH parade starts at 10:00 AM and MP starts at 1:00 PM. We will meet at Coach Bergman's house at 9:30 AM. The address is 1146 N. Hickory Ave., AH (Click HERE for a map). We will need some parents to drive the marchers to the starting point and to pick us up at the end to take us to the Mt. Prospect starting point. This day is important as it gives us an opportunity to recruit players for next year as well as giving some exposure to our generous sponsors. We need a high level of participation from both middle and high school players. Even you seniors that have graduated!! (Dress code: cargo shorts, running shoes and socks. Red or gray tees for coaches, players will wear jerseys.)
2. Frosh/Soph play in 2010 - We have reached agreement with Naperville, St. Charles, Brother Rice and Mt. Carmel to form an Illinois Frosh/Soph competition in 2010. The club will then follow a more appropriate Varsity/Frosh Soph model at the high school level to ensure the safest and most exciting competition.
3. Post Season Party - A post-season bowling/awards party is in the planning process. It will take place toward the end of July.
4. Parent Committees - The BOD met with a group of parents last week and decided to form four parent committees: Social, Fields, Fund-Raising and Spiritwear. If any parent would like to serve on one of these committees, please let us know. if we can make these work, it will allow the coaching staff to focus on player and team preparation.
5. Middle School News - At a meeting of the Illinois middle school coaches last week, it became clear that an additional team in the Berwyn/Cicero area is in the works and the organization may create a select side to compete at the annual Midwest Select Side Tournament in Elkhart over the second weekend in June.
6. High School News - Nick Niro earned selection onto the Illinois U/19 select side (aka, the Tornados), but could not play in the tournament due to injury. Mike Speck, Brian Pateras, Justin Lynk, Kevin Lydon, Andrew Collins and John Maevski all earned selection to the Tornados' U/17 and were fortunate enough to play in the tournament. Several of these players may earn selection into the USA Rugby National Age-Group program. An announcement will be made when we know that invitations have been extended.
7. Recruiting - If you have successfully recruited a player for next year, please let Coach Bergman or Pateras know asap so that we can include him on future communications.
8. Coach Education - Coaches Bartlett, Bergman, Pateras, Stier and White attended the USA Rugby Coaches conference over the weekend of June 6 and 7. Coach Bergman will attend the University of California High School Caoches Camp over the weekend of July 10/12. Coaches Bartlett, Stier and White will be pursuing their USA Rugby Coaching Certification later this year.
9. Email addresses - If we are using an inappropriate and erroneous email address for you, please send which one you prefer asap as we do not want to create any problems at places of employment/business.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the California Pizza Kitchen and Photo's Hot Dogs fundraisers. CPK management described it as "one of the most successful fundraisers that (they) have had at the Arlington Heights location."
Thank you parents and fans for your continued support. A special thanks to our 2009 sponsors: Athletico, ARO, the Northwest Woodsmen Rugby Club, K & L Contractors, the Chicago Grey Lions, Centennial Bindery and the Owens-Minor Company.
During the 2005 and 2006 seasons, ASRC participated in a nationwide study examining rates of injury in High School Rugby. The study was conducted at Ohio State University and the official report was issued by the United States Rugby Football Foundation.
